We have known for quite a while that we should floss daily and brush twice each day to maintain good oral health. However, we often get questions about how to floss or which particular types of floss work the best. Recently, the American Dental Association has approved a new type of floss that can play an essential role in oral hygiene: the water flosser.
Water flossers are designed to clean in between the teeth like a traditional type of floss. A steady pulse of water is sprayed from the device, which is generally attached to the faucet or a separate container of water.
According to the ADA, water flossers are effective at removing plaque and can also reduce gingivitis, also known as gum disease. Patients that have trouble flossing, such as those with bridges or braces, may find water flossers a good option for maintaining good dental health.
