We work extremely hard to ensure that we treat the whole patient, which means that we care deeply not just about correcting a significant oral health problem, but also about promoting good oral health care at home. The American Dental Association has identified nine types of foods as the most damaging to our teeth. These foods promote acid-producing bacteria, break down enamel, and/or can lead to decay and disease if not used in moderation.
Number Three: Crunchy Foods
Most of us love the experience of eating crunchy foods like potato chips, Doritos, or a myriad of other delights. However, while these foods may satisfy a craving we feel, they don’t always have a positive impact on our dental health. Most crunchy foods (vegetables like carrots excluded) contain a large amount of starch, which can easily get trapped in between our teeth. Over time, if this starch isn’t removed, it can lead to plaque and significant tooth decay that may require significant treatment to remedy. Your best bet if you love crunchy foods? Eat them in moderation and ensure that you’re practicing good oral hygiene like flossing and brushing afterwards to ensure that your teeth don’t suffer in the long run.
