We work extremely hard to ensure that we treat the whole patient, which means that we care deeply not just about correcting a significant oral health problem, but also about promoting good oral health care at home. The American Dental Association has identified nine types of foods as the most damaging to our teeth. These foods promote acid-producing bacteria, break down enamel, and/or can lead to decay and disease if not used in moderation.
Number Eight: Sticky Foods
While many people might try to eat healthier and head towards food such as dried fruit, these foods can pose a problem to your teeth. The problem with sticky foods, like dried fruit, raisins licorice, and other candies, comes with the amount of time that they sit on the teeth. The longer foods and sugars sit on your teeth, the longer they will feed acid-producing bacteria. This acid can erode enamel over time if not removed by brushing, flossing, or professional dental cleaning.
