One of our primary goals is to educate patients on how to prevent problems with their teeth and how to lead a healthier life. We believe in the power of prevention and, therefore, want to point out the biggest risks to your oral health so that you can be armed with more information that you can use to potentially make better choices in your life.
According to the American Dental Association, a study that was recently published in the Journal of the American Medical Association found that heavy marijuana use can put patients at risk for periodontal disease. Ultimately, the study indicated that “regular cannabis users were three times more likely to have significant periodontal attachment loss than non-smokers of cannabis”
Periodontal disease can cause a variety of significant problems, if not treated in a timely manner, ranging from possible loss of bone to the loss of an entire tooth.
