As an Invisalign Elite Provider, we’ve completed our fair share of Invisalign treatments. We truly believe in the product and have seen outstanding results in our patients. While we’ve written extensively about the benefits and process of receiving Invisalign, it’s worth discussing what Invisalign is made of in order to establish a sense of what you’ll be putting in your mouth for the next several months.
Invisalign aligners are removable, which means your teeth will be much easier to clean. This greatly reduces the amount of plaque and decay that can lead to cavities, crowns, and other periodontal issues.
According to Invisalign, aligners are “made of strong, medical grade thermoplastic material, uniquely developed for the Invisalign treatment plan.” Each aligner is custom designed to fit each patient’s teeth, and some practitioners have referred to Invisalign as “contacts for your teeth.”
However, while the aligners are composed of a thermoplastic material, they do not contain BPA (Bisphenol-A). Instead, the aligners are constructed with USP Class VI medical grade, high molecular weight, polyurethane resins that are perfectly safe for your mouth and body.
Invisalign aligners and retainers have passed biocompatibility tests and regulatory requirements, proving capable of withstanding normal human wear. Invisalign aligners have been approved as a Class II medical device by the FDA since 1998.
