How to Prevent Cavities Between Your Teeth

Dental Health Quick Tip: Reduce Acid Erosion After Eating

Senior’s Guide to Dentistry: Gum Disease

At one point or another, most of the global population has experienced trouble with oral hygiene. This is due to the fact that we eat and drink far more often than we brush or floss. This means that bacteria are alive and eating away at our enamel much longer than they’re dead. When bacteria destroy our enamel, they create pockets called cavities. Many cavities, or dental caries, form on the surface of our teeth. However, every now and then, particularly if we don’t floss, a cavity will form in between our teeth. Known as interproximal cavities, these cavities are fixed in mostly the same way that we fill other cavities. However, there are a few tips that we can pass along to ensure that these interproximal cavities don’t emerge in the first place:

1. Floss regularly to dislodge food caught between your teeth. Food that remains over time brings bacteria that cause chaos to your enamel. While traditional string floss does a great job of protecting the spaces between your teeth, modern flossing piks or daily flossers can also be useful, particularly if they serve as an entry point to regular flossing.

2 Invest in an interdental toothbrush or another device to assist you in reaching the difficult spaces between your teeth, particularly in the back of your mouth.

We often tend to brush the teeth that are closest to us, as well as the teeth and spaces that we can see. This means that our posterior teeth, or molars, tend to be more disregarded, as do the spaces between our teeth. However, adjusting our oral hygiene routine, as well as engaging in more flossing through traditional or new measures, can make a big difference in destroying bacteria and keeping our teeth and bodies healthy for a long time.
