It’s no surprise that dental problems can emerge from a variety of places: the wrong foods, genetics, a chipped tooth from a football game that results in a root canal in the future. One of the most important things we can do as practitioners is to help patients engage with and deeply understand their own health, including why these problems emerge and what we can to do treat them. It’s for this effort that we examine the nine most common dental problems that we see on a regular basis.
Problem Eight: Toothaches
Minor tooth pain that occurs due to sensitivity can be treated by scheduling a visit to a dentist for an examination. However, serious toothaches that arise from cracked or chipped teeth, abscessed teeth, or a tooth that has been knocked out require treatment as a dental emergency.
In the case of a dental emergency such as these, it’s crucial that you find care quickly. Some abscessed teeth cause swelling and difficulty swallowing. Cracked, chipped, or missing teeth can lead to severe bleeding. There are a few dentists in each city that may take the call or have emergency hours. But if you’re not able to schedule an appointment with a dentist, you should seek help from a hospital or trauma center immediately.
